Are you a massive fan of freshly shucked, succulent oysters? Start making your travel plans—the South Australian town of Ceduna will be hosting the annual Ceduna Oyster Festival (or Oysterfest) on October 4 and 5 (i.e. during South Australia’s Labor Day long weekend).
The seaside town of Ceduna is famed for its oysters—together with Smoky Bay, it accounts for half of South Australia’s total oyster production. At the grassroots festival, there will be thousands of oysters (paired with wine, of course), along with an array of finger food. There’ll also be lots of performances and live music—expect names like country music legend Bill Chambers, aerobatics champion Chris Sperou, Black Stick Puppet Theatre and more to add on to the festivities.
Good news—you don’t have to fork out entry fees for the Oysterfest. However, there aren’t any direct flights from Singapore to Ceduna—your best bet is to hop on an AirAsia flight to Adelaide ($583 upwards for a round-trip itinerary), before transferring to a domestic flight to Ceduna via Regional Express (from AUD464 or $542 upwards). A little pricey, but the tons of oysters in store for you may well be worth it. Head to the festival’s Facebook page for more info.
