Pay for what you use: the next hotel trend?

Could this be the new trend in hotels? The new, four-star A La Carte Da Nang has opened with a cool a la carte concept, whereby guests pay a base fee for the room, as low as S$99 per night, before selecting other chargeable amenities according to their wants and needs, like bathroom amenities, breakfast, iPads, toys, Playstation games and DIY meal baskets.

Spartan budget hotel chain Tune Hotels has had a “pay as you use” system for toiletries, air-conditioning, TV and internet access for a couple years now. But what piques our interest is that fancier hotels are catching on, too. This Vietnamese beachside property, for example, houses 202 rooms with kitchenettes, along with a spa, infinity pool and fitness center.

Great idea, we think—and we fully expect this to catch on with many more hotels in future.
