Lionsgate will open world’s first 10-storey amusement park in China this July

Suit up, hone your archery skills and prepare to volunteer as tribute, for the world’s first vertical theme park is coming to China this July, bringing popular film franchises such as 2012 pop culture behemoth The Hunger Games to life.

A manifestation of over 25 rides and virtual reality experiences, the Lionsgate Entertainment World promises an immersive enclave, themed after your favourite film titles under the American production studio. Experience a breathtaking flight through The Capitol district in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Flight Rebel Escape, set in a hovercraft that picks guests up from the streets, or purchase some Effie Trinket-worthy apparels at The Capitol’s boutiques if you don’t quite feel the part.

Also, directly from the pages of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire-werewolf series is the town of Forks, where the events of Twilight take place. Fans of the franchise, fondly known as Twi-hards, can hop on a virtual dirtbike date with the one and only werewolf hunk played by Taylor Lautner. Alternatively, if you’d prefer Robert Pattison as the century-old, pale-skinned, sunlight-avoidant fanged boyfriend, there is Twilight Saga: Bella’s Journey, a thrilling indoor ride that takes you through key highlights of the movie. Great news for both #TeamEdward and #TeamJacob.

For adrenaline junkies seeking something a little more exhilarating, Gods of Egypt: Battle for Eternity cranks the thrill level up to a new high. Based on the 2016 mythical titular film, a VR roller coaster launches guests into the atmosphere to witness the ultimate battle between Good and Evil above ancient Egypt.

More adventures await at the 10-storey amusement park, including rides based on films such as Escape Plan, Now You See Me and Divergent. Whether or not you’re a fan of the above franchises, one thing’s for certain: Shanghai Disneyland now has a competitor.
