Stunning new Mount Fuji World Heritage Center finally opens its doors

The Fujisan World Heritage Center has finally opened its doors in Japan, dedicated to celebrating the UNESCO World Heritage listed Mt. Fuji.

Designed by Shigeru Ban architects, the building’s centerpiece is an upturned latticed cone that imitates the iconic mountain, surrounded by a large pool that reflects its likeness.

Climb a spiral walkway to the fifth floor to be greeted with a panoramic view of the real, only slightly more photogenic, Mt. Fuji.

The south hall (entry ¥420) screens movies about the mountain; while the north hall (free entrance) provides information on climbing, weather conditions and nearby attractions.

Open daily (except the fourth Tuesday of each month) from 8:30am-5pm.
