In Sydney’s Pyrmont suburb, the boutique 1888 Hotel, named after the year Kodak launched their box and roll camera patent, opened earlier this year with a photo-centric theme for lovers of Instagram, claiming to be the world’s first Instagram hotel.
This hip 90-room property, the latest by hotel group 8Hotels, went under a $30-million renovation before revealing its Australian influenced decor that incorporates work by Australian artists, natural elements like reclaimed iron bark, stone and bronze, with exposed brick walls and the listed building’s original heritage features.
The hotel incorporates instagram-friendly walking tour maps for the Pyrmont area, Instagram images on display in the reception’s Mac space and a selfie space to take your own picture momentos.
The real Instagram pros will love the hotels’s offer of a complimentary night for Instagram users with over 10,000 followers. Even if you don’t, the guest that takes the best Instagram photo each month also gets a free night at the hotel for a future visit to Sydney.
The 1888 Eatery & Bar serves up continental breakfasts, a selection of beer and wine, and cuisine that uses fresh, local ingredients.
Rooms start at AUS239 ($268) per night.
