The impressive Taiwanese skyscraper hotel The Splendor Kaohsiung is offering a Business Special Package until the end of the year for NT$5,100 (S$215), which gets you an Executive City Room view and access to the 40th floor swimming pool. Rack rates start from NT$8,000 (S$340). The luxe hotel is high up in what was the tallest building in Taiwan until Taipei 101 came along (the building is even shaped like the Chinese character for “tall”). China Airlines fly direct to Kaohsiung from around S$950 return (including tax). The flight arrives late (11:25pm), but the hotel is only a short cab ride away.Though Taiwan’s second city of Kaohsiung isn’t going to win any awards in the glamor department, the one-time industrial city has shaken off its past, added a ton of bike lanes and is a great jumping off point to explore the amazing beaches in Kenting National Park to the south; or to hop on a train three hours east to the Pacific Coast and the little town of Dulan, fast gaining a name as the epicenter of the aboriginal arts scene, with a boho counter-cultural vibe to match.Read more at the Splendor Kaohsiung website.
