Legendary UK electronic group Underworld will headline Bangkok’s new riverside dance festival, Super Summer Sound, this May 13. Taking place at Asiatique Riverside located on Charoen Krung Road in Bangkok’s Bang Kho Laem District, the festival will be split across two dates (the second is on May 31). So far, there are only details about May 13, which will see Underworld joined by a raft of other electronic acts including DJs Nolen.Volens. and Maika Loubte, and Thai bands DCNXTR, X0809 and Kidnappers.
Currently comprising the duo of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, Underworld rose to fame in the mid ’90s. You’ve probably heard their song “Born Slippy” from the Trainspotting soundtrack (they’re also on soundtrack for the follow-up, T2). The duo released their ninth studio album, Barbara Barbara, We Face A Shining Future, last year. This will be their first ever visit to Bangkok.
The festival is the brainchild of Duangrit Bunnag, the architect and guy behind the hip riverside hangout Jam Factory Kllongsan, and DJ Seed, aka Norasate Mudkong, a veteran radio DJ and music critic, who helped to curate the festival’s line-up. The pair are also currently working on reviving Generation Terrorist, a popular cult music and art magazine in Thailand that closed back in the ’90s.
Tickets for Super Summer Sound start from $113 and there will also be packages available including rooms at nearby riverside hotels. There’s still not much to see at the festival’s official Facebook page but the organizers promise more details and ticket will be available on their website next week.
Several airlines fly direct between Singapore and Bangkok, and flights that weekend are starting at $188 with Singapore Airlines, if you fly on Friday.
