Snackable moods: Hue wants to boost emotional wellness with bite-sized snacks

Hue knew? This colourful (and very Gen-Z) local brand allows you to chew, pop and burst your way to a better mood. Products from Hue are centred around four positive feelings – Calming, Energising, Fulfilling and Uplifting – and have been carefully created to elevate emotional wellness. Powered by science-backed natural ingredients in multi-sensory fun bites, each Hue comes in brightly coloured packaging with none of the usual medical supplement aesthetic, making it easy to spot your chosen “mood” or any of the “chew, burst and pop” format.

According to brand lead Shaneika Ong, Hue offers a vibrant and fun way for Singaporeans to practise self-care. “Partnering with leading laboratories and research facilities across the globe to conduct extensive studies on ingredients commonly used in traditional wellness remedies, we uncovered their powerful abilities to regulate moods,” she says.

These ingredients include tiger milk mushroom (used in traditional medicine in Southeast Asia to improve vitality and alertness), screw pine (also known as pandan leaf, which may reduce cortisol gene expression and potentially help relieve fear and anxiety), moringa leaf (chosen for its potential ability to increase serotonin expression, helping to invoke feelings of relaxation and happiness) and wild Alaskan fish oil (which supports healthy energy levels and cognitive performance).

Some of Hue’s products like the Uplifting range come in all three chew, burst and pop formats, while others like Calming and Fulfilling only come in burst format. Whichever you choose, note the suggested use for each product. For example, only two to three pieces can be taken in a day for the chews. They actually taste a lot like candy so resist the temptation to eat more.

Do the products actually work or are they just marketing hype? I tried having a couple of apple yoghurt-flavoured Uplifting and melon-flavoured Energising chews to alleviate the Monday blues. The fact that I had a mid-day sugar boost was enough to help me power through the daily grind, but knowing that there were active beneficial ingredients in them made snacking more interesting and guilt-free. Variety is the spice of life, and if these snackable moods in unique flavours and surprising textures can kick-start a positive wellness journey, I’d say bring it on.
