The Daily Life Of Ms. D

Choreographed by Chie Ito and performed by Ito and Miwa Sasaki, this is a modern dance piece that chronicles how a woman shuts herself off from tragic world events in her own home. The piece is both funny and introspective.

Winterreise

Baritone Matthias Goerne, pianist Markus Hinterhäuser and South African artist William Kentridge come together to perform Franz Schubert’s Winterreise, which centers on an emblematic wanderer who travels through a frozen landscape. 

Japanese Film Festival 2015

This year’s edition will feature 27 film retrospective on Okamoto Kihachi and a few more specially curated films from past years. Not to be missed are Kihachi’s earlier classics like All About Marriage and Samurai Assassin.

Smriti Padha (Memory Route)

This dance performance is inspired by the story of  Dussasana Vadham (The Slaying of Dussasana), and centers on the struggle for sovereignty between India’s rival Pandava and Kaurava clans. This is presented by Santha Bhaskar, with dancers from Kerala Kalamandalam and Bhaskar’s Arts Academy, and performed in Sanskrit and Malayalam with English subtitles. 

Revolutionary Model Play 2.0

Unfolding live onstage through the innovative use of cameras and video projections, this documentary-style performance examines the cultural and artistic significance of Madam Mao (wife of Mao Zediong)’s Revolutionary Model Plays, which combines traditional Chinese opera with patriotic storylines. Eight different languages will be employed to explore existential questions about art, culture and representation.

Cabanons

This experimental installation by French conceptual artist invites audiences into a series of small tents to witness aerialists, tightrope walkers and acrobats overcome the vulnerable situations that they are in. The tents, or “cabanons” are designed and erected by spectacular French installation artist Daniel Buren, Presented at the Singapore International Festival of Arts 2015.
