As exhilarating as it can be watching world-famous racers and cars zoom past you in your metal cage, we all know the highlight of the Singapore Grand Prix is the entertainment. Last year we were blessed with a triple-whammy superstar concert featuring Ariana Grande, One Republic and The Chainsmokers; the year before, Halsey and Imagine Dragons hit our shores. Good news: this year’s headlining acts are no less sexy.
For the race weekend of Sep 14-16, catch act after top act within the little F1 festival village. On Sep 14, none other than the King of Mandopop himself Jay Chou will open the concert at the Padang stage, with a guest performance by his Sing! China mentee (and official local jazz darling) Joanna Dong. Sep 15 will see American rock band The Killers and British rock star Liam Gallagher (ie. former lead singer of Oasis) take the stage. And for the closing night on Sep 16, the party vibes hit a high with dance tunes from DJ Martin Garrix and English pop star Dua Lipa (returning just months after her solo concert here; she must really like us). Will they come together briefly to perform their chart-topping hit (and Dua Lipa’s breakout track) “Scared to Be Lonely”? One can only hope.
Other hot acts to catch include British soul and pop band Simply Red, New Jersey hip-hop group The Sugarhill Gang, and even ABBA tribute band Bjorn Again. Off the main stage, the line-up around Circuit Park is just as impressive, with performances from Indonesia’s folk-pop duo Stars and Rabbit, European and African-based collective Afro Celt Sound System, rising DJ from China Lizzy Wang, among others. Our local acts will also be representing, including the likes of M1LDL1FE, Myrne and the Eatmepoptart crew.
Single-day Zone 4 Walkabout tickets that entitle you to the concert performances start from $78 here, but head down in person to Sistic outlets and you just might be able to snag one of the limited promotional tickets going at $38. If you’re actually intending to watch the races, single-day Bay Grandstand tickets start from $108.
