Tisn’t the season to be benevolent, but the dullness of Aug isn’t stopping FestivalForGood. Singapore’s only social enterprise festival is back for its second edition on Aug 19 to showcase the nation’s most vibrant social enterprises.
The one-day event will bring together socially conscious products, interactive workshops and live performances, to celebrate the innovation and giving spirit of these local businesses. For some guilt-free retail therapy, pick up a one-of-a-kind piece at the pop-up market, which will feature fashion and lifestyle brands that recognize the abilities and needs of the disadvantaged. If you get hungry, an array of food choices will be on hand to warm your stomach and your heart—Flourish Culinary, for instance, will be on-site to sell baked goods by students with special needs.
Our activity of choice, however, has to be the all-new immersive sensory “capsules”—interactive adventures for participants to step into the shoes of the disadvantaged for a day. Dialogue in the Dark will take you on a journey without sight that’s sure to be unexpectedly illuminating, in an experiential tour in complete darkness guided by the visually impaired. Then there’s HushTeaBar’s meditative tea appreciation session, where you can sample soothing tea in total silence, facilitated by the hearing-impaired. In addition, look forward to workshops for coffee-brewing, crafting and upcycling, that will run throughout the month of August.
It shouldn’t take a whole festival to realize this, but giving back has never been more rewarding.
FestivalForGood is happening on Aug 19 at lyf@SMU, from 12pm-10pm. More information here.
