The Singapore Myanmar Film Festival is back for a second time, where industry movers and shakers sift through open call film submissions by Singaporean and Myanmar filmmakers and shortlist a handful of nominees across categories like “Best Director” and “Best Film”. The films will be screened next week, and the winners are picked by judges like Adam Alexander, veteran producer and award-winning filmmaker from the BBC.
On Nov 8, five of the winning films will be shown at The Projector. There are two screenings, one from 11am-1:30pm, and one from 2.30pm-5pm. Especially intriguing are Side Glance of the Dragon, about a man making a living off a garbage dump, Jade Man, which depicts the lives of youths working in jade mines, and Lady of the Lake, a film about the belief in supernatural powers.
When you’re done, remember to check the secret bar for some drinks with your friends to talk about which one you liked best.
