There’s a whole array of plant-based options out there – beef, pork, seafood, milk and more. Hungry diners now have another plant-based brand to try, and it comes all the way from Japan.
Nikuvege is a plant-based meat concept developed by Japanese-based Tastable Co. It is designed to mimic both the texture and succulence of traditional meat with the quintessential Japanese “umami” flavour profile.
Together with plant-based butcher and meat curator, Love Handle, they have launched a Japanese fusion menu and an array of delectable plant-based butcher items.
Chef Addis Tan of Love Handle has combined house recipes with Nikuvege’s plant-based products to create a selection of Japanese-inspired dishes. Discerning palates will like the star item, Umami Rice Burger ($18). It’s the first-of-its-kind plant-based rice burger in Singapore incorporating Nikuvege Flake in the rice “buns” and using Nikuvege base to create a meaty patty.
Other items on the menu are the Menchi Katsu Burger ($18) made of a crispy panko-breaded Nikuvege Hamburg Patty with a burst of soy milk cream inside, and the savoury Tsukune Don ($14), featuring a bincho-grilled Tsukune made with Nikuvege base and brushed with Love Handle tare.
The Dan Dan Udon is an allium-free ($14) dish featureing springy udon noodles, ginger soy mince made from Nikuvege Flakes, cucumber, sesame paste, doubanjiang, and chilli oil. (These dishes are also through online delivery via Grab and Deliveroo.)
Bring them home
As a plant-based butcher, Love Handle offers a selection of plant-based meats, available in-store and online. Try new items like Nikuvege Mince ($6 for 200g), which can be paired with rice or noodles, or transformed into hearty cheeseburger patties. The Breaded Patty with Tofu Cream ($10 for two patties) features a filling of creamy bechamel, encased in a breaded patty.
From now till Sep 30, with every purchase of any Nikuvege dish, guests will receive a free Suntory Highball, making it an all-round Japanese-themed celebration.
