Claypot Fun
One of the most important things needed in traditional Cantonese cooking: Fragrance. Which is why four-month-old Claypotfun (a collaboration between the Jumbo Group, Seafood International and Palm Beach Seafood) comes highly recommended—especially for its staple of claypot rice (choose from minced beef and egg, frog leg, or chicken and mushroom). The dish, which takes up […]
Potion
At the boutique hotel Nostalgia in heartland heaven Tiong Bahru, glam meets colonial in an intimate collection of 50 rooms, all kitted out with top amenities, out-of-the-norm furnishings and artwork. Fittingly, Potion—the hotel’s open-air restaurant—also offers dinners a taste of tradition mixed with today. Chef Max has created an interesting Australian-fusion menu that updates classic […]
Rocks Urban Grill + Bar | Review
When we visited the Emmanuel Stroobant Group of Restaurants’ latest baby on a weekday afternoon, it seemed as if someone had decreed it the power lunch venue du jour. There they were, Raffles Place’s finest, schmoozing like it was still 2006. Since we did not have a reservation, we were told apologetically that we would […]
Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant
Known for its Peking duck, this gold and black themed restaurant also dishes out delicious plates of dim sum.
The Marmalade Pantry + Cork Cellar
Previously known as Cork Cellar Kitchen, the new name now reiterates the Marmalade Group branding. There is an extensive grazing menu here with short orders (read: Small dishes, tapas style), and long orders for dinner. The short order—crab linguine is fab, and, we dare say, outshines the bigger dishes. Desserts are yummy too.
The Tiffin Room
With its antiquated surroundings and ceiling fans whirring slowly overhead, The Tiffin Room is redolent of the colonial era, and almost seems like a place untouched by the passage of time. The food here is good too—mulligatawny soup, butter chicken, Hyderabad fish and spinach with cottage cheese—by Chef Kuldeep Negi are ever delectable.
Goldleaf New Taiwan Porridge Restaurant
The no-frills interior of this restaurant doesn’t provide a hint of just how good the food is going to be. The food is absolutely delicious, and the way to do it is to order a bunch of items and have them with sweet potato porridge. Top sellers at this hole-in-the-wall gem are the omelets; chicken […]
Tatsuya Japanese Restaurant
For premium sashimi, few do it better than Tatsuya. Just be prepared to pay though. The menu changes every two weeks, as much is dependent on the seasonal offerings. Try to book yourself a counter seat so you can be part of the action transpiring here. A must-try is the toro tataki (lightly seared tuna […]
Kopi Tiam
For the record, Kopi Tiam bears no relation to the chain of food courts also called Kopitiam. Instead, this is a sturdy institution where you can get authentic and tasty hawker food in a hotel setting. Try the fish head curry, Kopi Tiam laksa and Hainanese chicken rice. Book a table at Kopi Tiam with […]
