And with a blink of an eye, we bid adieu to the second month of 2017. But on the upside, March is already looking pretty solid with the myriad of returning festivals, a number of concerts and a couple of exhibitions to check out (you can about all the things we’re excited about here). And that includes some new watering holes sprouting up in the city, including the opulent Atlas bar in Parkview Square, a European bistro serving up French wines at a great price and more.
Singapore Cocktail week is now a full-fledged festival
Now that we’ve experienced the first two very successful editions of Singapore Cocktail Week, the organizers have decided to turn the whole thing into a huge spectacle. It’s looking particular exciting this year, especially with Singapore bars clinching top spots on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list last year. The Singapore Cocktail Festival will come with all the same (if not, better) classy events, exciting parties, comprehensive masterclasses and more happening across the city’s best bars and cheap(ish) cocktails we’ve all grown to love on Mar 16-21. The Gatsby-esque bar at that Gotham City building is finally open
We gave you a first look at Atlas earlier this month, and it’s all set to be one of the grandest openings of 2017. Heading this Gatsby-esque bar are the talented duo of Roman Foltan and Carla Davina Soares, both formerly from London’s Artesian. This ostentatious space is all about golds, reds and intricate motifs to recreate the European grand lobbies of the ‘20s, and houses one of the world’s most diverse collections of gin in their centerpiece three-storey chiller, 250 different labels of Champagne and some light European-influenced dishes and canaps, created by Daniele Sperindio, formerly of Open Door Policy. Zouk Singapore is finally complete with the launch of their fourth and final outlet
Capital is the lofty new sanctuary located on the second floor of Singapore’s longest-running nightlife and music institution. But you won’t be able to go in from Zouk’s main room. In fact, it’s a whole other concept that’s only accessible via a lift or a dimly-lit stairwell at Zouk’s lobby area. And it’s nothing like the old Velvet Underground either. Capital adopts a lounge-like atmosphere throughout its four main areas: an island bar, a whisky bar, a cigar room and a lavish seating area, complete with a dedicated DJ console with surrounding VIP seating (just like Zouk) and a dance floor. It’s home to more than 48 different types of whisky, including rare, collector’s and limited edition ones like The Dalmore Constellation 1971 Cask 2, priced at $36,000 a bottle). You can now have $6 French wines all day long at this pretty bistro
There’s a new European bistro housed in the former Big Hotel (now Hotel G), right in the heart of Singapore’s Civic District, and their claim to fame is $6 glasses of wine. And not just during hour. All. The. Time. Ginett Restaurant and Wine Bar’s list is entirely French, and they import directly, which might explain the crazy good prices. The geographical range covers the usuals, from Bordeaux to Puligny Montrachet to Graves to Chateauneuf du Pape. The kitchen is helmed by veteran chef Sylvain Royer, and promises a staid, but solid classic menu of salads, sandwiches, pastas and mains. Excited? Details here.
Yoga and wine, in one session

This event happening on Mar 2 is probably the closest thing you can get to drinking and exercising at the same time. This one-hour moon salutation sequence class will be led by Kathy Gabriels from Urban Yogis, followed by a wine-tasting session hosted by Shalom Chin, a Singaporean sommelier with 13 years of experience in the industry, who also has been responsible in creating several vintages with wineries in Australia, Austraia and Italy. Like it or not, St Patty’s Day is here
There’s obviously going to be a whole slew of exciting boozy parties to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, but if you only have time for one, join in the sea of green at Circular Road on Mar 18-19 for the street festival featuring none other than the ever so popular Irish pub Molly Malone, who’ll be on food duty serving dishes like traditional Irish potato pancakes with sausages and bacon and pints of Guinness. Live performances are aplenty too, with performances by Singapore’s leading Irish band, and an all-female quartet, as well as a parade of bagpipe and drum musicians “marching” and playing their way from Asian Civilisation Museum to Circular Road.
