8 Oktoberfests to get your fill of beer this month

We’ll never get over the fact that Oktoberfest here is celebrated in October—ironically, the traditional Bavarian festival typically takes place mid-September in Munich, and ends the first weekend of October. Still, it seems that here in Singapore we’ve already been conditioned to equate the festival with its namesake month, and look forward to the flood of beer that comes with. Sure the festival has been commercialized to the point of no return, but an extended celebration of beer, pork knuckles and bratwurst can only be a good thing, right? We rounded up all the Oktoberfests happening this month with just three words in mind: Bring it on.

Sentosa Oktoberfest Pub Crawl (Oct 6)

For one night only, Singapore Pub Crawl is venturing into Sentosa to celebrate the Bavarian tradition. Meet at the Fat Pigeon State at UOB Plaza, before a chartered bus takes you to three bars and a club along Siloso Beach, including AJ Hackett, Wavehouse, and Mambo Beach Club, for drink and food promotions exclusive to crawlers of the night. The $20 price tag also gets you a complimentary shot at every bar, one-for-one drink promotions, and entry to an exclusive pool party.

Spuds & Aprons (Oct 6-7, 13-14)

Fancy your Oktobingeing 100m above sea level? Take your party to Mount Faber, where Spuds & Aprons atop Faber Peak Singapore is throwing panoramic views of Sentosa into the mix. $85 gets you free-flow Erdinger Weissbier and Tiger Beer, as well as German classics like the Pork Knuckle with Jus, Roasted Pork with Mustard Crust and Beer Caramelised Onions, all night long. On opening night (Oct 6), the restaurant will even attempt to break the Singapore Book of Records for “Tallest Beer Tower in Singapore”, with a customized beer tower standing 2.5m tall—the rough height of a Singapore Cable Car cabin.

The Summerhouse (Oct 6-22)

This year, Erdinger takes its annual Oktoberfest to the idyllic Summerhouse, for a full 17 days of food and fun. From Oct 6-20, Wildseed Bar at The Summerhouse celebrates with a makeshift German biergarten (beer garden) and exclusive dinner menu of German treats (lots of meat and sausages). Oct 21-22 will see the festivities stepped up a notch, with an actual festival celebrating all things Bavarian. Look forward to live music and live stations—of Bavarian weisswurst, pretzels, pork belly roasts, house-cured smoke salmon and sausages.

Savourworld (Oct 13-15)

New kid on the block Savourworld is joining in on the Oktoberfestivities with its very first edition of the festival. The beer of the ball is Maisel, one of Germany’s oldest breweries and the maker of a refreshingly dry, traditional wheat beer. In trying to retain a little bit of tradition, Savourworld will be bringing in a six-piece, live Bavarian Oompah Band in full lederhosen gear to perform and get the festive mood pumping. Admission is $28, but the hearty German fare on offer—including weisswurst, bratwurst and currywurst—comes at a separate price.

Timbre+ (Through Oct 14)

If you like your Oktoberfest with more than just pork knuckle and sausages, Timbre+ is the place to be. With Erdinger as the official beer, exclusive F&B packages get you a bucket of five Erdinger bottles at just $60 nett—and purchase of two or more buckets get you premium freebies. The participating food vendors include Chit Chaat Chai for Indian food, NamNam Go for Vietnamese bites and fried food, Kush for salted egg everything, and even Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh for Chinese favorites. Unconventional, but we did say the festival’s been over-commercialized.

Brotzeit Bier Bar Restaurant (Through Oct 15)

It isn’t an Oktoberfest celebration without Brotzeit. Exclusive beer party packs include a two-hour free-flow ($45 per person) and Unlimited Free Flow ($88) of Spaten beer, which you can fully utilize to wash down the restaurant’s Meatloaf Roll and Classic Berner Sausages with Fries—both available at $15 per portion with the purchase of any Free Flow Package. That said, you might want to opt for the signature Meter Sausage, a monster of a meter-long paprika-cheese sausage, weighing 500g with wedges and sauerkraut on the side.

Oktoberfest Asia (Oct 19-21)

Singapore’s biggest Oktoberfest returns with the same air-conditioned, festival-style marquee as last year; all decked out with decorations and other adornments to replicate Oktoberfest events (and their atmosphere) in Munich. It’ll be the fifth year where you can enjoy free-flow Bavarian and other German brews like Paulaner Brauhaus, Weihenstephaner and Bitburger, as well as typical German bites like roast pork knuckles, homemade sauerkraut and more. Regular tickets are $100 (includes free-flow beers and one dinner platter) while VIP tickets are $160 (includes free-flow beers, gourmet buffet and goody bag); available here.

Oxwell & Co (Through Oct 31)

Outdoing us in the pun game is Oxtoberfest by gastropub Oxwell & Co, with a month-long Oktoberfest that even includes pop-up bars and masterclasses. In focusing on Singapore-made craft beer, they’re switching out traditional German beer for homegrown craft beer brands 1925 Brewing Co and Brewlander & Co. Ten local brews will step into the spotlight all through October, but for some added fun, both brands will host pop-up bars on Ann Siang Hill—on Oct 21 (Brewlander) and Oct 28 (1925).
