Brace yourselves, theater geeks. Come February next year, the iconic original West End and Broadway production of Evita will make its Asian premiere right here in Singapore, at The Mastercard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands.
For the uninitiated, Evita is Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice’s joint masterpiece, which first opened at the Prince Edward Theatre in London in 1978. The story charts the rags-to-riches rise of real-life First Lady of Argentina, Eva Peron, before her tragic death from cancer at the age of 33. Even if you aren’t a fan, you’ll surely recognize now classic hits like “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”, and “On This Night of a Thousand Stars”. No? Have a listen here.
The international tour will star Emma Kingston and Jonathan Roxmouth as leads Eva and Che respectively, and will bring back the original creative team from the 1978 production—Broadway choreographer Larry Fuller, designer Timothy O’Brien, and legendary Broadway director Hal Prince, who, with 21 Tonys to his name, is the recipient for the most Tony awards in the world.
If it all sounds immensely impressive; it is. The production opens Feb 23 2018 for a limited season, which gives you plenty of time to catch up. We recommend starting with the 1996 film based on the musical, which stars Madonna and Antonio Banderas as Eva and Che. Tickets start from $55 and can be purchased here.
