Surprise surprise; it’s not just Andy Warhol who’s got the monopoly on pop art. If you’re a fan of the ‘50s art movement, or even just someone who likes keeping up with popular culture, head down to the Visual Arts Center this month for an exciting new exhibition. Jointly presented by Orange Gallery Singapore and Utterly Art Gallery, Instant Fame is an inaugural group exhibition showcasing the best pop artists in Singapore, running for a limited time of Jan 17-22.
Featuring prolific local and locally based names such as Andre Tan, Billy Ma, Justin Lee and more, the exhibition will look at ubiquitous facets of modern life and pop culture. Expect to reflect on your consumerist ways, or your unhealthy obsession with celebrities, through mediums ranging from paintings to sculptures to prints. There’s even a gloriously tongue-in-cheek poster of the “Statue of Bigotry”, courtesy of artist Billy Ma, featuring—well, you know who.
Instant Fame will be on show from Jan 17-22, 11am-8pm, at the Visual Arts Center, #01-02 Dhoby Ghaut Green. Admission is free and more info here.
