If you love all the festivals and block parties that party people Sunshine Nation throws (think IMI Festival and Sunshine Nation Break Party), then you know you’re in good hands when it comes to their now-annual electronic garden picnic, done with a twist. Now in its fourth run, Garden Beats (the site will be updated with this year’s info later today [Jan 8]), returns on Mar 3 with yet another good mix of local and international artists, as well as a whole slew of fringe activities to keep you occupied at Fort Canning Park.
On the bill this year are rising pop multi-instrumentalist Youngr, who just released his debut feel-good EP This Is Not An Album just three days ago (Jan 5); Canadian beat maestro Pomo, whose music has garnered support from the likes of R&B Haitian-Canadian artist Kaytranada and English electronic duo Disclosure; German deep house producers Andhim; and tropical drum and percussion siblings hailing from the Philippines, Hernandez Brothers.
Of course, our very own indie-electronic artists will be flying our flag at the festival too—two-piece outfit featuring Weish and Din, .gif; funk duo Fat Fish Familia; and bassy electronic music producer and Here Now Concepts’ director, Jerls.
And like all the previous editions, if you need to take a break, you can head over to the leafy, tented social fields, where you can gaze at social art installations or leave a message on their iconic Arch of Love. Wander around some more and you’ll find the festival’s play fields, where you can take part in garden games like sack racing, croquet and lawn bowling. Otherwise, you could get your very own flower crown made on the spot over at the styling fields. They’re also getting in some of the hottest food joints in town to feed and fuel hungry and thirsty partygoers, though details on who exactly are still in the works.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, yes, you can bring your own food items and have a feast at the festival’s picnic fields.
