We enjoy a great party at not-so-usual venues as much as the next person, which is why you’d find us wax lyrical whenever British sportswear-slash-streetwear label Fred Perry Singapore announces a new event. They’re known to have provided an edgier alternative to live music with their epic pop-up gigs at alternative locales like the futsal park and Kay Siang Road’s abandoned basketball court, similar to what Heineken Green Room did years ago. But for this edition of the label’s gig series Subculture Live, they’re taking it indoors once again.
Happening at Esplanade Annexe Studio on Oct 13, they’ve reserved the stage for Gary Powell, the drummer of English rock outfit The Libertines, for an exclusive DJ set. On the day itself, he’ll be joined by veteran shoegaze group Astreal and up-and-coming four-piece indie rock band The Betts. Artist Empyreal (a.k.a. Amanda Tan) will be on duty to provide some super glitchy, super trippy visuals throughout the night.
The Council crew—namely Julien Brochard, Yadin Moha, Jamie React and CATSONCRACK—will be taking over for the official after-party to fill the club space with house and techno beats from midnight onwards.
Admission is free for Subculture Live (register for invites here) and $20 for The Council’s after-party tickets here.
