Here’s a meaningful arts festival worth your time this November

If you were looking for a way to give back this month of giving thanks, clear your calendar for the next two weekends. Local non-profit organization Club Rainbow Singapore is bringing back their multi-experiential arts festival, and amping up the program with five new highlight events.

From Nov 18-25, Dreamseeds Arts Fest, now in its second edition, will showcase a variety of arts exhibits, concert performances, and creative workshops, put on by beneficiaries who’ve been preparing as part of a year-long immersion program. The festival was first unveiled last year as a platform to showcase the talents and creative potential of Club Rainbow’s beneficiaries, youths who have chronic illnesses. After a successful inaugural run, Dreamseeds is back, coinciding with the organization’s 25th anniversary.

This year, five key events will occupy various venues within SCAPE. Kicking off the festival on Nov 18 is a performing arts concert featuring the beneficiaries and their industry mentors, with youths from Club Rainbow’s event hosting training program as the concert emcees. An arts exhibition of various mediums (watercolour, clay, photography, stop-motion animation and more) will showcase the beneficiaries’ interpretations of the festival’s theme “Finding Futurenova”, and include interactive and collaborative installations with local artists.

For attendees who like to get crafty, a series of complimentary craft workshops ranging from silkscreen printing to tie-dye and leather craft-making are available; or you could pick up a meaningful keepsake at the arts market, where handmade products by the beneficiaries like tote bags and mugs will be on sale. The closing event is a must-go—the festival has partnered with Objectifs for a film screening of five local short films, which will delve into inspiring themes of imagination, perseverance, self-acceptance, and the ever-changing landscape of our world.

The festival is an open-to-public event, and admission is free. It certainly doesn’t take much to do a little good this November.

Dreamseeds Arts Fest 2017 takes place Nov 18-25, 4-9pm, at SCAPE. More info here
