Nostalgia sells—as do culture, heritage and local pride these days. If you’re actually keen on this kind of pop-up placemaking, you’ll be pleased to know that another festival centering on local heritage is coming right up. From Nov 17-19, Let’s Go Jalan Jalan will take over the less-explored space of Labrador Park and transform it into a 100-stall food and music festival for all ages to enjoy.
The festival’s intent is to cultivate intergenerational values, and what better way to bring generations together than through food? Look forward to popular local treats like rickshaw noodles, Hakka yam abacus seeds, traditional kuehs, and old-school soya bean; modern takes on local favorites like oreo pisang melokek will be available too. More than 80 food stalls will be present, so be prepared to lose your mind choosing what to eat.
Taking the celebration of all things local a notch higher, the highlight of the three-day event is a heritage trail experience to bring the public closer to the forgotten art of Teochew opera. Take a walk through actual performers’ hair, makeup and costume routines, and even grab a quick photo in the colorful costumes at the closing photo booth.
In addition, expect live music from local performers, an art market, game booths, as well as live culinary workshops.
