Lau Pa Sat will be transformed into a fashion runway during F1

Our favorite CBD lunch spot Lau Pa Sat (Telok Ayer Market) will become the unlikely venue for a fashion runway show to take place this upcoming F1 season.

Yes, it’s odd, we know, but the premise here is actually pretty cool—blending accessible, common hawker spaces with high fashion runway shows that are usually held exclusively behind closed doors. And we have beer brand Heineken to thank for that.

To be clear, the public won’t be able to just waltz into the actual runway space and be up close and personal as the models strut down the portion of Boon Tat Street usually closed off to traffic that the satay huts begin operating on come nightfall.

Instead, passersby can catch the catwalk action from a distance (via a live projection) while being entertained by fringe activities happening, such as a live mannequin performance and a roving iPad magic show. There will also be aerial servers, dance and music acts.

The show itself, curated by fashion show producer Jeremy Tan, will feature the latest collections from local designers Sabrina Goh and Amos Ananda. Models making an appearance include Sheila Sim, Angie Watkins and Jason Godfrey, as well as former F1 racer David Coulthard. Heineken will also be showcasing their own fashion collection at the show for the first time in Asia.

Heineken F1 Fashion Party takes place Sep 13, 9pm-10:15pm at Lau Pa Sat along Satay Street (portion of Boon Tat Street beside Telok Ayer Market). More info here.
