The Spartan Race has crazy obstacles that may involve fire, barbed wires and mud

Masochists can participate in this year’s Spartan Race (Nov 15), which seems more fun (but also a little dangerous) than the requisite Standard Chartered Marathon.

Jointly organized by Mediacorp, this race comes in three difficulties—the Sprint, which is a 6km race with more than 22 obstacles, the Super, a 12km course with more than 25 obstacles and the Beast, which is 16km long with 33 obstacles. It’s not a mere traipse through a racetrack, as there may be barbed wires, dirt, mud and even fire involved.

The inhumanly atheletic may want to take part in the elite race ($188 per person). It opens at 6am on the day itself, with a $1,000 cash prize and a trophy (for bragging rights, of course) for the respective male and female winners. But if you’re in it for the workout, the open category ($168 per person) starts at 7:20am, with a new race commencing at 15-20min intervals. There will be no prizes for the open category, though. The race commences at Nicoll Highway.

It’s too late to get an early bird discount, but you can still register here.
