The collectively beloved graphic interchange format takes center stage at this year’s Noise x GIF Fest 2017, which spotlights the artistic medium and its role in digital art, entertainment and creative communication (fancy speak for “memes and social media shade”, we think). From Oct 5-11, the event jointly organized by kult and Noise Singapore will feature over 50 original GIFs to the theme “Illusion”, from professional and amateur artists all across Singapore—shortlisted from the initial 500 received in an open call.
It’s set to be an immersive visual experience; the select 50 will be showcased through projections, large screens and a massive LED wall, and even secret rooms within Gillman Barracks. The team from GIPHY, the world’s largest library of animated GIFs, has even highlighted their favorite GIFs on show. But if you find yourself blowing through the GIFs quicker than expected, a range of activities will also be on offer—including workshops by local pros like Aik Beng Chua, interactive art installations, and live performances by the very aptly chosen local band .gif.
