This Week in Wellness: Physiotherapy gyms + detoxing + endurance running

Road to Recovery

Looking for a gym that also provides physiotherapy? Radiance PhysioFit over at Shenton Way offers just that—the 12,000 sq. ft. gym boasts state-of-the-art gym equipment, as well as an in-house physiotherapy center that comes with a full range of screening and recovery programmes. You can now rehabilitate your injuries while still hitting the gym (under the watchful eye of qualified instructors, of course).

Let’s Talk Detox

There’s an interesting article over at www.livestrong.com that highlights the nasty chemicals present in the processed food that we eat these days. Thinking of a detox? Hop on the juicing bandwagon (we show you how to here) or for something less extreme, clean up your diet by dining at organic restaurants Glow Juice Bar and Cafe and The Living Cafe.

Going The Distance

Recently, there have also been findings into the harmful effects of endurance running. Once lauded as one of the best ways to keep fit, extreme long-distance running (think ultramarathons) is now getting a bad rep due to negative health implications. According to researchers, ultramarathoners tend to suffer from respiratory problems and sustain injuries, such as knee problems and stress fractures—especially if training is too intense. Lesson learnt: don’t rush to cover long distances if you’re not ready. Once you are ready, you can prove your mettle at ultramarathons Twilight Ultra ChallengeMarch 29-30, and the Craze Ultra on September 20-21.
