Last chance to say goodbye to the Green Corridor as you knew it

Last week, we took a look at what the Green Corridor may look like in the future. While the developments may be cool, it is bittersweet that the original KTM railway (one that holds many memories) is getting spiffed up. If you’ll miss the overgrown, sometimes puddle-pocked, dark-at-night Green Corridor, there are a handful of last chances to enjoy it before it closes for a couple years of renovations.

Let’s Hike! 8 @ Reminiscing the KTM Railway (Green Corridor) will be held on Jan 9 at Kranji MRT Station. This hike is not for beginners and is five hours long, so make sure you train up a bit before embarking. The walk starts at 8:30am, and ends at Kampong Bahru near SGH. Remember to bring water, snacks, sunscreen and insect repellent. Good hiking shoes are a must, too. This walk is free and you can register here.

There’s also the Green Corridor Run on Mar 6, which will be the last run ever to take place there. This 10.5km route stretches from Keppel Road to Bukit Timah/Rifle Range Road. You can register as an individual or a team ($49 and $44.10 per person respectively) and pick up your pack at City Square Mall’s Fountain Square on Nov 27 and 28. There’s a special category this year called the Keppel Land Water Challenge, which coincides with World Water Day. Participants carry three to five liters of water across the same distance to a ceremonial well. $1 will be donated for each liter poured in, to raise awareness for people with difficulty accessing potable water.
