Spring cleaning is in the air – the perfect time to take stock of what you have in your home and work towards making it a cleaner, neater space. But not everyone finds this easy.

To help you get a headstart on home organisation, we spoke to experts in this field to get some tips on how you can achieve a neat and tidy home (and keep it that way).

When asked for organising hacks she applies in her own home, Cara shares that she is very mindful of what she brings into her home and turns down freebies if they’re not something she needs. “If we don’t bring in clutter, then we won’t have to worry about decluttering.”

She also suggests streamlining your storage space with handy accessories. “Trays and containers are very useful for keeping things tidy in drawers and cupboards… I always recommend using clear boxes and containers so that we can see what is stored in them.”

Eve’s top organising tip? “I believe everyone’s home has sufficient space, all we need to do is to be ruthlessly honest with ourselves to only keep things that we love or are useful.”

“Tidying makes one a smarter and more conscious shopper. If you just threw out 10 bags of colourful clothing because deep down, you only love black, would you buy bright-coloured clothes again when you shop? Tidying is being honest about who you really are and what you really love.”

She also shares her top home organisation tip for local homeowners travelling again and bringing back souvenirs: “If you have a specific item that you are looking for, measure the ideal size for it before your trip. When you are charmed by an item during your travels, you can refer to those size specifications and see if it fits your home. Otherwise, it’s going to end up as clutter!”

Esther lives by a simple rule: “Give everything a home. My home is not 100% perfect and tidy all the time because life happens and things get used. However, everything that I own has a ‘home’ that it belongs to, which makes it quick for me to reset the space.”

“You can make a vision board of what you want the space to look like,” she suggests for homeowners who dread organising. “This helps you to frame the big picture before diving straight into the tidying action. Basically, anything that doesn’t align with your vision, you can let go with gratitude.”
