It seems a mere balcony won’t do at Artyzen Singapore, one of the newest hotels to grace the West Orchard neighbourhood.
Artyzen Singapore by Artyzen Hospitality Group (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shun Tak Holdings Limited) is a stylish hotel located on what was once the heritage landmark named “Villa Marie”, a sprawling tropical-garden mansion by the great-grandson of Singapore’s well-known philanthropist and avid horticulturist, the late Mr Tan Tock Seng.
Artyzen Hospitality Group had worked in partnership with renowned architect Ong&Ong and award-winning interior design studio Nic Graham & Associates to create a lush contemporary vertical oasis. The project has already received several accolades including Best Hotel Architecture Singapore at the Asia Pacific Property Awards 2023, Best Hotel Architectural Design and Best Hotel Interior Design at the Asia Property Awards Singapore 2022.
Still, it’s hard to miss its neighbour across the road that opened during the very same month. Both are urban oases, but Artyzen stands out for its unique design elements throughout the building.
Don’t expect minimalist decor here. The hotel is a rich tapestry of culture, colours, and flavours inspired by Singapore’s Straits heritage. The digital artworks by local artist Terence Tan, for example, are a key feature at Artyzen.
Featuring iconic scenes in Singapore, the artworks were intricately created by combining photographic techniques with painting and design concepts. There is colour, sense of movement and place that will pique a guest’s interest despite the seemingly chaotic composition.
A place to unwind
The hotel offers 142 rooms and suites – all with balconies, high ceilings and ceiling fans, and luxurious baths. The jewel-tone colour palette with touches of gold lends an opulent and swanky quality to the rooms.
All Terrace suites feature 95-square-metre landscaped sky terraces, which are actually larger than the indoor space which measures 84 square metres. They come complete with a sun deck and outdoor furnishing (no jacuzzi though), making it a great place to chill and relax.
If you need a pool, head to The Roof Garden on the top floor with a sunken lounge, and a 25-metre cantilevered infinity pool with a partially transparent base overlooking the leafy surrounds.
New-age heritage food
Foodies can look forward to a fresh reinterpretation of cuisines at Quenino by Victor Liong (quenino means “little one” in Malaccan Creole Portuguese). The restaurant features new Straits flavours by the renowned Melbourne-based chef who has been awarded two Chef Hats by the Australian Good Food & Travel Guide.
Liong celebrates his Malaysian-Chinese heritage through an innovative blend of traditional and modern techniques, and an emphasis on quality seasonal ingredients and artisanal products. Think dishes like Ama-Ebi Toast with lemongrass, turmeric and salted green chilli; Mud Crab with Coconut Taro Cream; and Dry-Aged Lacquered Duck with Fermented Rice Pancakes.
Cafe Quenino on the ground floor offers breakfast, coffee and small bites. It’s another spot to rest and relax, with towering floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the landscaped garden.
One floor of the hotel is dedicated to enabling guests to maintain their wellness routine while on the road. Surrounded by a lush green landscape and orchid gardens, and with a soaring 15-metre-high ceiling are the gym, private treatment rooms, meditation zone, and pavilions for yoga and exercise.
Artyzen Singapore is at 9 Cuscaden Road, Singapore 249719.
