Enjoy diner eats and more as popular nightclub Cherry Discotheque takes on a new concept

The jury’s still out on when local nightclubs will be back in action, and while we wait, yet another club has been turned into a dining pop-up. But don’t mistake this for another run-of-the-mill concept. This time, it’s everyone’s favourite underground haunt, Cherry Discotheque, that has reopened with a diner theme.

Now known as Cherry Diner, the coolest spot in town still boasts the same interior it’s known for—neon signs, checkered flooring and arcade machines. This might be your chance to give your drab Insta feed a good update.

For food, a wide selection of eats floods the menu, and it’s everything one might expect from Cherry—that means tongue-in-cheek dish names, irreverent descriptions and more.

First, take your pick from the Wet Ass Buns section for classic, diner-style hot dogs that are served with a side of crispy fries. Your Cheesy Ex ($15.90) is perfect for those who (obviously) enjoy cheese as parmesan, mozzarella, red cheddar and Swiss cheese are all layered atop the bratwurst and bun; otherwise, the Classic Chilli Brat ($17.90) will suffice for those who prefer classic options.

Previously only doling out hotdogs, Cherry Diner has since added more variety for locals to enjoy staples. Look forward to trying the Rice Bowls such as Premium Pork Ribs ($22.90) or Bimbimbab ($18.90). There are even pizzas (from $24.90) and sides like Never Let U Gyoza ($12.90) that’s topped with generous amounts of bonito flakes, and Calamari Rings ($13.90) to cater to those with a hankering for bar bites.

Finally, while there aren’t milkshakes on the menu, the pop-up will do you one better with beer buckets, bottles of wine, vodka and even champagne.

So although throwing shapes on the dancefloor may be out of the question for the time being, you can still head down to the venue on Cecil Street to revel in the good vibes and host intimate gatherings with your gang when you make Cherry Diner your new hangout spot.

And here’s a pro tip: heading to Cherry earlier in the week instead of on the weekends will guarantee seats, more privacy and less waiting time.
