Here’s a first look at the newly renovated bar at that Gotham City building in Bugis

The handsome, OTT Art Deco building just across from Bugis Junction, known among Singaporeans as “that Gotham City building” or “the Hunger Games’ capitol headquarters”, is really something: there’s a huge golden crane in the middle of the open plaza, four bronze statues of people like Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln and gargoyles all round the building’s exterior. It’s home to embassies of the United Arab Emirates, Austria and Mongolia. What does this have to do with you, you ask? Well, it’s also about to be home to a Gatsby-esque (for real this time) bar. It’s opening in March, it’s got serious pedigree and it looks nothing short of amazing.

Located at the ground floor lobby of the office tower, Atlas is one of Singapore’s most anticipated bar openings, taking over the premises of Divine Wine Bar Society. Keeping in line with the design ethos of the Art Deco period, Atlas features astonishing details, using a palette of gold, bronze and deep red and intricate motifs. But what use is a beautifully decorated bar without a vast collection of spirits?

Heading the bar are the talented duo of Roman Foltan (one of Forbes “30 Most Talented People Under 30”) and Carla Davina Soares, both joining Atlas from London’s Artesian at The Langham, which won the World’s Best Bar award four consecutive times, so you know you’re in for a good time. Complementing the razzle-dazzle of the space is a three-storey high tower/chiller, which houses an expansive collection of gin curated by Jason Williams, ranging from 1910 London dry gins to the finest modern craft gins from around the world. Beneath it is a lavish rose gold walk-in room with the bar’s collection of Champagne, some of which have been selected from the cellar of the building’s owners (the Hwang family).

But besides sipping on sophisticated cocktails and tasting fine Champagne, there’ll also be some light European-influenced dishes throughout the day and some bar snacks towards the night, all of which were researched and created by Executive Chef Daniele Sperindio (formerly of Open Door Policy).

That’s all we know for now. Stay tuned, and get your updates here.
