With all the ongoing and upcoming wine, whisky and beer festivals, it’s nice to know that gin will be taking the spotlight come Nov 30-Dec 8 as Asia’s premier gin festival, the East Imperial Gin Jubilee, makes its triumphant return to Singapore.
The multi-city event will once again be making rounds around some of Asia’s cocktail capitals, such as Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Hong Kong, before landing in Singapore on Nov 30 for a nine-day revelry. This year, the festival will also be making stops in Beijing and Shenzhen for the first time.
Bartenders from participating bars will be concocting their best versions of G&Ts, using East Imperial’s range of tonics as mixers. You then get to vote via social media which one is most deserving to win—all the while imbibing G&Ts from top bars (last year saw 43 of Singapore’s bests, including 28 Hong Kong Street, Manhattan and The Horse’s Mouth included) in the name of fairness.
There’ll be parties, masterclasses and pop-up events happening throughout the nine days too, as well as guest shifts from East Imperial’s newly appointed Brand Ambassador, Jamie He, formerly from Beijing’s famed Janes + Hooch. And oh, in line with the no plastic straws movement, only bamboo straws will be used this year, alongside use of biodegradable cups.
We’re of course most looking forward to the real highlight of the annual festival, Gin Lane, where gin brands and bars will banding together for a pop-up street party along one of Singapore’s alleyways. Stay tuned for details as they come.
