During this Golden Age of air travel, the very first commercial transatlantic flights took the the skies from Idlewild, the original name of the John F.Kennedy International Airport in New York. That also happens to be the name of Singapore’s newest cocktail bar that seeks to instill in you the same sense of wanderlust as the travelers of yesteryear.

Helmed by Kiwi-born Andy Griffiths, who has multiple accolades under his belt and impressive 20 years of experience behind the bars of some of the world’s cocktail capitals, Idlewild will take your taste buds on a journey through the era’s greatest hits. Think an inspired beverage programme of 20 signature cocktails that gives nod to 10 destinations along the transatlantic route. From Paris to Casablanca and from London to Lima, we can’t wait to try the cocktails (from $20* each) crafted with a variety of artisanal spirits sourced from small batch distilleries in each location – and even rare vintages in some. If you get peckish while sipping on your Journey of Limun, crafted with the Bianco Vermouth and Prosecco synonymous with Rome, or the mint-and-cardamom flavoured Berbere Smash inspired by Morocco, Idlewild also offers tapas-style bar snacks (from $15*) that draws inspiration from respective native cuisines like Classic Fish and Chips, Atun Chifa and Oxtail Croquette.

As you enter the bar’s salon-styled entrance, you certainly cannot miss their Cabinet of Curiosities; filled with over 50 rare spirits and a plethora of trinkets and drink paraphernalia curated from worldly travels around the globe. Then make your way into the Main Room and soak in the alluring charm of plush furnishings and accent pieces that perfectly embodies the romance and glamour of travel of the era, while being serenaded with live music Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Whatever adventure it is you’re seeking, be it a romantic chance encounter in the French capital or self-discovery amidst the colourful exoticism of Havana, this is probably the only place in town where you’ll find all that and more at the bottom of your glass.
