This new craft beer bar in Bukit Timah is a kopitiam by day

The craft beer scene here only gets more exciting. After the recent opening of Almost Famous craft beer bar at Chijmes and Singapore’s own brewery (and bar) Pink Blossoms Brewing last year, we now got the neighbourly Orh Gao Taproom, whose name some might recognize as the Hokkien dialect coffeeshop slang for stouts (other than literally meaning black dog).

It opened its doors just last month, taking over the unit formerly occupied by ice cream shop Island Creamery at Serene Centre, and shares the space with Killiney Kopitiam, which operates from 7.30am-6.30pm.

Orh Gao itself opens from 4pm Tuesdays to Sundays, and despite the name, doesn’t just serve up stouts. On its 10 rotating taps are an international selection of craft brews from names like BrewDog, Pasteur Street Brewing Company, Rogue Ales, Black Kite and more. Most beers here are on the accessible end, with prices ranging from $12-$17. There are bottled beers too, ranging from the more usual Stone & Wood Pacific Ale to Siren’s Shattered Dream Salted Caramel & Chocolate Edition breakfast stout.

Besides the local staples from Killiney to load up on, Orh Gao also serves its own menu of bar bites with items like har cheong gai, calamari with sambal tartar, and salted egg chicken burger; so you’ll never go hungry after a couple of pints.

If you’re looking for an excuse to check the place out, there’s no better time than the public grand opening party taking place on Jan 12 from opening till late. There’ll be free beers, lucky draws and the exclusive launch of two new brews. Local labels like That Singapore Beer Project and Daryl’s Urban Ales will be making a showing that day too, so you know it’s gonna be one lively kampung affair.

Orh Gao Taproom is located at #01-03 Serene Centre, 10 Jalan Serene.
