The Macallan has partnered with English artist Sir Peter Blake once again to create a journey through the ages. The collaboration takes two forms: first, it shines through the labels of 13 one-of-a-kind bottles of exceptional 1967 whisky, and second, through a unique pop-up at Raffles Hotel Singapore.
The unique 1967 whisky collection
“This exceptional 1967 whisky was chosen for its classic yet distinctively colourful character, which is reminiscent of Sir Peter Blake’s work of the same year. With notes of oak and fig leading to a burst of hazelnut and strawberry, this is a truly special single malt that finishes with complex flavours of chocolate and lightly spiced peach. It is in many ways, its own work of art,” says Sarah Burgess, lead whisky maker at The Macallan.
Each bottle features its own original Sir Peter Blake collage art on the label, detailing unique stories relating to The Macallan’s history, community, and the beautiful natural landscape of The Macallan Estate.
“I meticulously worked on each collage, pulling from The Macallan Estate’s rich history to complete a collection that is a celebration of art and whisky,” says Sir Peter Blake.
Each of the 13 original bottles is hand-blown with an oak stopper and features a label signed by Sir Peter Blake. Presented in a handcrafted European oak case incorporating Sir Peter Blake’s thumbnail photography, the expressions are also accompanied by a leather-bound book showcasing all 13 label artworks and related stories, as well as a certificate of authenticity.
One of these bottles and its exquisite packaging, Anecdotes of Ages Collection: The Old Farm, is on display at Raffles Hotel Singapore.
Sir Peter Blake is one of the leading figures of British pop art and renowned for his highly distinctive collages featuring images from popular culture. Best known for his iconic 1967 album cover of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in his distinctive collage style, his collaboration with The Macallan dates back three decades.
The exhibition showcases The Macallan and Sir Peter Blake’s creative journey from inspiration to bottle. It allows art and whisky enthusiasts to explore the world of Macallan through the lens of Sir Peter Blake.
Guests will embark on a self-exploration tour beginning with Sir Peter Blake’s studio, which offers various unique exhibits that bring to life narratives which capture the ethos of the 13 stories that inspired the collection.
Only 322 bottles are available worldwide, and an extremely limited quantity is available for purchase upon enquiry at The Macallan at Raffles Hotel Singapore.
