Le Papillon

Housed in Singapore’s new hot spot, Le Papillon is the latest venture for former Fig Leaf chef Anderson Ho. The restaurant is simple but chic with clean lines and minimal interior decoration—except for an interesting mural that runs along the back wall. Although small in size, the place had a healthy buzz when we were there for a weekday lunch. We requested to see the a la carte menu, but were encouraged to make our selection from the lunch set menu where the prices were better suited to reflect a light meal. Our starters were simple yet well done—tomato carpaccio, pumpkin soup or Caesar salad. The rest of our meal was a more mixed big. The beef brisket with sweet potato was delicious and full of flavor, while the sea bass was beautifully cooked and melted in the mouth. Unfortunately, the pasta with chicken, mushroom and capsicum cream sauce was nothing out of the ordinary (in fact the chicken was tough and overcooked), and we thought the dessert of profiteroles was nice but not special. For a good uncomplicated French meal, in surroundings for both socializing and business networking, we’d definitely recommend Le Papillon. The service is attentive and the atmosphere lively yet intimate.
