A kaisen izakaya—that is, a Japanese tavern specializing in small seafood dishes—Otaru Suisan has a focus on preparations from the Hokkaido port city of Okaru. Needless to say, they are serious about their seafood, importing scallops, ikura and other items in a -60°F refrigerator to ensure freshness. The 80-seater has the expected izakaya feel, with tatami-inspired seats and large hanging lanterns (There is also a private room that seats 12 people, if you want to have a get-together.) And the location is pretty great, too, on the fourth floor of Bugis+ mall where it gets lots of footfall from shoppers and professionals from the nearby offices.
