Sweet Salty Spicy

The Rail Mall may be a little out of the way, but we were curious enough about this place that calls itself a Thai food market and canteen, to go the distance. The interior did not look anything like a market or canteen, but was a mid-range contemporary restaurant with soft lighting and candles on each table. We ordered the tasting platter for two that included crispy rice cakes with a warm chicken and prawn chili dip; “miang” of prawns and pomelo on betel leaves with a palm sugar dressing and shredded coconut; and deep fried silken tofu stuffed with fresh crab and soft shell crab. The portion for the platter was very generous, with the deep fried tofu and the “miang” of prawns being the most interesting. The tom yum soup and pad Thai were only average, but the spicy salad of green papaya, crushed peanuts and dried prawns served with coconut rice and sweet salty pork was a delicious meal on its own. Our devil’s chocolate cake with raspberry cream and lemon; and lime tart desserts were knockouts. Next time, we might buy some of their grilled Angus beef and salads from the deli area and fix up a meal.
