Close to a decade ago, we were treated to one of the most visually stunning sci-fi epics of our time. Avatar, directed by James Cameron. It was a film that took 15 years to come to fruition because Cameron has said in numerous interviews that the technology needed to fully achieve his vision for the film was not yet invented. Now, traveling theatrical and performance troupe Cirque du Soleil has created an original stage production inspired by the film—titled Toruk – The First Flight—which will be presented at Singapore Indoor Stadium on May 24-Jun 3 (Thursday-Sunday only).

This masterpiece, which is Cirque du Soleil’s 37th production since 1984, welcomes you to the enchanting world of Pandora set in a time before the film’s events; so no, you won’t see Jake Sully, Neytiri, Dr. Grace Augustine, Colonel Miles Quaritch or any humans here. It does however take on the same premise of the film, where you’ll be immersed in a grandiose story of imagination, discovery and possibility—complete with stunning visuals, puppetry, stagecraft, cinematic score and of course, acrobatic feats.

Narrated by a Na’vi storyteller, the tale follows Ralu and Entu—two Omatikaya boys who are coming of age—who decide to go on a quest to save the Tree of Souls. Together with Toruk, the main protagonist of the production, they journey up high into the Floating Mountains with the help of a new friend they met along the way to fulfill a prophecy that will save the Na’vi from imminent danger.
