Last month, Sir Elton John announced that he’d be going on one final, 300-show world tour that will last for about three years before fully focusing on his family. It’s finally confirmed that the 70-year-old pop legend will be making stops in Asia, including Singapore, somewhere in November or December next year.
Over the sparkling 50 plus years in the business, this global icon has gone on to sell over 300 million records (with more than 50 Top 40 hits), made cameos in films, composed music for theater, won numerous awards (we’re talking Grammy, Brit, Academy, Golden Globe Tony and Disney Legends) and so much more. He’s written a whole slate of songs that vary from ballads and rock to the blues and musical numbers. It’s clear that he’s transcended time and remained relevant in pop culture throughout the years, especially with hits we can easily sing along to like “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”, “Rocket Man”, “Your Song”, and “Candle In The Wind”; just to name a few.
But Elton John is more than just his music. He’s also been actively fighting against AIDS since the late ’80s, and went on to set up the Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992. The Foundation has raised more than $400 million for programs and research in the war against HIV/AIDS. Besides being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he was also knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1998 for his humanitarian work. Talk about overachieving.
The tour itself will kick off on Sep 8 later this year in the US, and will be traveling to countries in the North American, European, Asian, South American and Australasian regions before concluding in 2021. He said: “I plan to bring the passion and creativity that has entertained my fans for decades on my final tour. After the tour finishes, I’m very much looking forward to closing off that chapter of my life by saying farewell to life on the road. I need to dedicate more time to raising my children.”
The dates are still in the works, but tickets for the Asian market—which includes Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul and “additional markets to follow”—will be out on Nov 1 this year. You might want to mark your calendars so you don’t miss out on catching the superstar perform live for the last time, complete with a fabulous new stage production to visually showcase his 50-year journey and discography like “no one has ever seen before”.
