So often do we focus on how dementia weighs on the family members of people living with dementia, we forget how trying it can be for the people themselves. Pangdemonium’s next play, then, serves precisely to provide a look into that side of the story.
Premiering Mar 2 till 18, Pangdemonium’s staging of French playwright Florian Zeller’s The Father will explore the deteriorating mind of 70-year-old Andre, who begins to feel as if something sinister is happening in his home. Expect family drama, suspense, and a puzzling narrative, as Andre starts to bend under the weight of dementia.
The cast of The Father
Directed by Tracie Pang, the staging stars local heavyweights Lim Kay Siu, Tan Kheng Hua, Janice Koh, Frances Lee, Keagan Kang, and Emil Marwa. It will open Pangdemonium’s 2018 Season, and form the first of three plays revolving around the theme of Hope and Home.
Zeller’s original has previously been nominated for Best Play at the Oliver and Tony Awards, plus won The Guardian’s “Best Play of the Year”. After the resounding success of the company’s restaging of The Pillowman last year, The Father feels promising.
