Play with virtual reality and catch pop star Lauv perform at Make The Future eco-festival

Missed American singer-songwriter Lauv (“I Like Me Better”) in his Singapore debut opening for Ed Sheeran last Nov? No worries; the pop star is back for another live performance this March—and this time, free-of-charge. As part of the Make the Future Singapore festival happening Mar 8-11, Lauv will headline a new segment on Mar 9 called Make the Future Singapore Lates, the festival’s first after-hours event.

A global campaign by Shell, Make the Future returns to Singapore’s Changi Exhibition Centre for a second edition after 2017’s inaugural event. The free-admission festival is open to all, and aims to generate conversation and collaboration around energy ideas and innovation for Asia. If that sounds a little dry for your liking, you’ll be pleased to know the line-up of events comes closer to a Science Centre-type mass exhibition instead, complete with performances and immersive activities for all.

While Lauv is arguably the main attraction this year (last year’s headliner was British sweetheart Pixie Lott), the festival also features an impressive line-up of big names in local music—namely Jasmine Sokko, Gentle Bones, Charlie Lim and MICappella. The new Lates event, open only to those aged 18 and above, lets you explore the festival at night to enjoy live performances and food offerings; there’s also an open-format forum on the future of our energy, should you want to pitch in your views.

Outside Lates, the actual main event at the festival is the Shell Eco-marathon Asia, which will pit 120 student teams from 18 countries to race their self-built, energy-efficient cars. In addition, look forward to a ton of interactive exhibitions that help you get hands-on in understanding our energy use and sustainability. Inside an Energy Theatre, augmented reality experiences let you explore the future of eco-friendly vehicles and CO2 reduction; while Shell Eco-marathon simulators create the feel of driving as a Shell Eco-marathon driver. Other fun features include a kinetic dancefloor, building and racing your own saltwater-powered cars, and playing baseball with virtual reality headsets.

Make the Future Singapore 2017

The Make the Future festivals all over the world are intended to inspire innovation—from the young minds still in school to today’s businesses and governments with the power to actually make change. If the way to get people thinking about the environment is to make it fun, we’re here for it. Good on you, Shell.
