There’s always a bit of excitement in the air whenever September rolls around, and that’s because we know Grand Prix Season Singapore (GPSS) is almost upon us again. For music lovers, that means a trip to Clarke Quay is in order for Music Matters Live. Now in its 14th year (9th in Singapore), Music Matters Live is a showcase of up-and-coming performers from all around the world—and best of all, admission is free. Here’s why you should be at the live music extravaganza from Sep 13-18.
You’ll discover new international acts
I Wear* Experiment
The numbers speak for themselves. Music Matters Live 2019 will see 50 emerging artists from 15 countries perform in more than 100 free shows over six nights. This year’s line-up has a focus on female and female-fronted acts including Japanese J-idol group DEAR KISS and Israeli singer-songwriter Totemo. Some of the other artists to get acquainted with: Estonian electro outfit I Wear* Experiment, Taiwanese indie rockers Amazing Show and Australian hip-hop artist Billy Davis and his band The Good Lords.
You’ll celebrate Made In Singapore stars
ShiGGa Shay
Day 2 of Music Matters Live 2019 (Sep 14) will be particularly noteworthy—that’s when the annual Made In Singapore showcase takes place on the main stage at Clarke Quay’s Fountain Square. Presented by iconic fashion house Hugo Boss and local record label Zendyll Records, the biggest ever Made In Singapore will feature acts on the rise along with Music Matters Live Alumni who’ve already become headliners. Expect to catch performances from Estelle Fly, RRiley, ShiGGa Shay, THELIONCITYBOY, Aisyah Aziz and more.
You’ll (re)discover live music hangouts
Le Noir
While Fountain Square will be the center of action during Music Matters Live from Sep 13 to 15, the festivities will spread out to a number of venues around Clarke Quay throughout the event—some reliable favorites and a few that are probably new to you. Head over to mainstays Crazy Elephant, McGettigan’s, Le Noir, Warehouse and Zouk as well as newcomers The Crossroads and The Riverhouse to get in on the fun.
You’ll have plenty of local craft beer within easy reach
Good music calls for great beer, and that’ll be flowing thanks to Singapore’s own Crossroads Brewing Co, who have brewed an exclusive beer just for Music Matters Live. Winners of multiple international beer awards, they will be showcasing their Lychee Pale Ale alongside their very popular Hefeweizen throughout the festival.
You’ll get to party with bigwigs from the global entertainment industry
Music Matters Live is held alongside All That Matters, a conference that brings together delegates from the fields of music, sports, online entertainment, gaming and marketing. They’ll be in the audience, looking out for talents who might just become global superstars in the near future.
