Swell with national pride at these 9 markets in August

It’s always good to support local businesses and what better time to support local than during our nation’s birth month? August is littered with markets and fleas that feature Singaporean brands and artists for a month-long celebration.
 

Singapasar 2019 Edition (Aug 2-4)
 

For its fourth run, Singapasar reclaims its location at the National Design Centre to showcase a collection by homegrown talents that represent Singapore’s identity and culture, where some 32 brands will set up shop. Happening on the weekend before National Day, forage through the stands and you just might find locally designed/made apparels, accessories and bags suited to your taste, books by local authors and of course, food and beverages.

All things Singaporean Aug 2019 Bayfront Pop-up Market (Aug 2-4)
 

As the attractions at Gardens by the Bay bloom with brand new exhibitions and shows to commemorate Singapore’s 54th birthday, pop by the Bayfront Marketplace for unique wares, artisanal products and knick-knacks. Always one to support local social services, the bazaar has partnered up with various social service organisations to raise funds for their beneficiaries at the pop-up.

Lelong! Lelong! Sustainable Fashion Swap (Aug 3)
 

WeWork partners up with The Fashion Pulpit for a swap flea just in time for National Day. The Lelong! Lelong Sustainable Fashion Swap will also feature local favourite sustainable brands including cruelty-free skincare Re:erth and Want Skincare, independent womenswear label Qlothe and upcycled fashion Muta Wear; all held at the newly revamped Funan mall.

Design Pasar (Aug 3)
 

In support of local artists, craftsmen and designers, Foreign Policy Design Group will be hosting Design Pasar; a pasar malam-style neighbourhood craft market for the creative community. Find homeware and porcelain plates by Supermama, gorgeous bouquets by Floral Magic, captivating art pieces by members of the OIC – Organisation of Illustrators Council and even delectable bites from The Refinery Singapore and Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream and Coffee. Shop to the sounds of live local indie bands and DJs, or stay for the free artistic showcases by Tell Your Children, Ejtee and Old World Charm.

For those fond of the various farmers markets that dot the streets of Holland Village and Dempsey Village, Brunch Bandits has got another fresh produce market up their sleeves. Held at The Villa Fiesta, Ginger Garden Farmer Market is an organic, curated mix of commodities from local farmers as well as local craftsmen and artisanal producers for a weekend of garden-fresh crops and picnics.

Carouselland: Small Dreams, Big Possibilities (Aug 16-18)
 

Themed “Small Dreams, Big Possibilities”, this year’s physical manifestation of Carousell’s marketplace stretches across three days with an extensive list of over 300 vendors manning booths offering various knick-knacks in honour of everyday aspirations—including anything from vintage clothes and accessories to retro games and home decor. Workshops, game stations and an interactive trail of sure-win prizes await.

Frank Food August Market (Aug 17)
 

Loewen Gardens is back with another family-oriented farmer’s market. In the canopied comfort of Dempsey Hill, browse through organic food and beverages, fresh bakes, handmade jams, spreads and gifts from the 30-odd stalls.

Twilight: Flea & Feast (Aug 30- Sep 1)
