Archifest may seem like a largely niche and exclusive design festival, but in actuality, the event is far from esoteric. In fact, this year’s edition is making it a point to appeal to both architects and the general public.
Taking place across the island from Oct 1-31, Archifest 2021 offers over 100 programmes organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects, promising fun and engaging events which will immerse all in the nature of creative design.
Simply check out the hybrid festival that encompasses online exhibitions, physical installations and interesting workshops. First, you’ll want to head online for Singapore Through My Eyes, a virtual art exhibition available on the Archifest website, to view picturesque works that communicate uniquely local design and architecture elements.
Then, sign up for a workshop or two; we’d recommend the SILA Kayak n Klean Archifest Edition to paddle along Singapore’s Northern coast in open deck double kayaks, experiencing the natural mangrove ecosystems while playing a part in preserving the ecosystem and carrying out a coastal clean up exercise.
Also consider the exciting midnight heritage tour of Geylang, which will introduce locals to the hidden gems, as well as sights and sounds of the vicinity.
Finally, try your hand at some Ikebana workshops led by architects and artists to learn about floral arrangement; or visit a home decor pop-up market to discover works by homegrown artists who continually celebrate Singapore’s architectural heritage.
