Esplanade’s alternative music festival Baybeats returns as a 4-day event this November

It’s hard to believe, but Esplanade’s alternative and indie music festival Baybeats is now 20.

And in celebration of this major milestone, Singapore’s beloved arts venue will be transforming the typical three-day fiesta into a four-day event, allowing as many audiences as possible to catch live performances as well as live-streamed ones.

Happening from Nov 4-7, the Esplanade Theatre stage will feature some of the most iconic Singapore bands who have been spotted in past editions. There’s the rambunctious Amateur Takes Control, eclectic Tiramisu, pop-rock superstars Electrico and dream-pop quintet Pleasantry.

You can even expect to catch hardcore legends Caracal and unapologetic punkers The Full Pledge Munkees back in action.

And at a time where the underground music scene is suffering from the closure of spaces and lifestyle restrictions, the Esplanade Annexe Studio will be used for collaborations with indie organisers, labels and presenters. Kickstarting a new phase of engagement with the local music community, this year’s festival will feature faces like Atmos, Big Duck, Middle Class Cigars and Secret Signals. Look forward to seeing each of them bring their own distinctive style and flair to Baybeats 2021.

The festival just wouldn’t be the same without the usual spotlight on budding artists, and this time, witness the passion and fire from folks like hip-hop artist BGourd!, as well as alternative-rock band Cadence.

Finally, also check out a four-part episodic series titled Add to Playlist to enjoy a deeper dive into the scene and music festival. Produced by Not Safe for TV, the videos are an exploration of subculture, inclusivity and nostalgia—available for viewing on Esplanade Offstage.

Trust us when we say you won’t want to miss this year’s epic Baybeats music festival.
