Why go to the movies when you can catch Cats the musical, now showing at MBS

There’s been quite a bit of harsh criticism surrounding the recently-released film adaptation of Cats, which is set to screen in Singapore really soon. So instead of catching the movie in cinemas, why not watch the original Andrew Lloyd Webber production that has won multiple awards and have been highly-raved about since its inception?

From now till Jan 5, head to the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands, and be blown away by felines belting sweet show tunes like the beloved “Memory”, also sung by living legends such as Grammy Award-winning, American singer Barbara Streisand.

Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, which is essentially a collection of whimsical poems about the pets, Cats sees a group of kitties named the Jellicles, dancing and singing at the Jellicle Ball. Over the course of the grand evening at the larger-than-life junkyard, meet Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Grizabella and more–all looking to ascend to the Heaviside Layer to be given a new lease of life.

“Memory”-singing Grizabella is portrayed by world-renowned theatre veteran Joanna Ampil, who has performed in several London West End musicals including Miss Saigon, Jesus Christ Superstar, and even Les Miserables. And joining her to delight the audience are Luke Fraser Yates, George Hinson, Elizabeth Futter, among many others.

One of the longest-running musicals in the West End, don’t miss this chance to enjoy Cats live in Singapore.

Cats (from $50) runs from now till Jan 5 at the Sands Theatre. More information available here.
