If you’re starting to feel a little listless from being in this strange limbo—coming down from that CNY high but not quite motivated to dive back into work yet—there’s something to look forward to next month. From Mar 14-24, the annual Singapore Festival of Fun returns to Clarke Quay for its third edition, with enough thrill and alcohol to pull you out of that funk.
Taking place over the March school holidays, the 2019 edition of the festival features a total of 108 shows—making it the biggest installment yet. The first week will be devoted to the admission-free Clarke Quay Streetfest (Mar 14-19), with the area transformed into a carnival showcase of street acts, stand-up comedy and games. You’ll be able to catch international acts like UK’s The Sergeant Majors, performing the tallest 10-ft tall walkabout; juggling, upside-down hanging acrobat Felicity Footloose (UK); and one-man daredevil stunt show performer Ernest Magnifico—whom you might have seen performing on the streets of Australia since 2007. Singapore gets its own stage time too, with local performance duo the Annoying Brothers, no stranger to Clarke Quay events, joining the festivities.
Come Mar 15, gears will shift for the Magners International Comedy Festival, returning for the sixth time over two weekends (Mar 15-16 and Mar 21-24). The now anticipated event brings back another line-up of 14 top-billing international comedians to perform in five iconic bars in Clarke Quay: Crazy Elephant, Get Juiced, McGettigan’s Irish Bar, Pong Singapore, and the newly opened Cask & Bangers—where you’ll be able to fill up on booze and laughs. Definitely check out the Singapore-Malaysia showdown at Get Juiced, with homegrown funny people Jinx Yeo and Sam See in a comedy standoff against Prakash Daniel and Andrew Netto from Malaysia. Somehow, we think the topic of chendol will come up.
Singapore Festival of Fun happens Mar 14-24, 6-10:30pm, at Clarke Quay. Tickets for the Magners International Comedy Festival are available here, and more information is available here.
