Daughtry is set to rock Singapore in July

Remember when American Idol was actually a thing in the noughties? Yeah, so did we. The multi-platinum rock band Daughtry is no stranger to Singapore, having performed at St James Power Station, Singapore Grand Prix and ION Orchard’s Fifth Anniversary. They’re back to perform at Zepp @ Big Box on Jul 11.

The band was formed by Chris Daughtry, the runner-up of American Idol’s fifth season back in 2006. Their self-titled album that followed in the same year was met with huge success; it topped the Billboard 200 chart, and was named the best selling album in 2007. You’ll probably remember the hits that spawned from that album like the Grammy-nominated hit “It’s Not Over”, “Home”, “What I Want” and “Over You”.

Their other three records didn’t do too bad either—the sophomore Leave This Town also debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart while 2011’s Break the Spell was certified gold. The most recent album, Baptized, which was released in 2013, saw mixed reviews. The platinum-selling “Waiting for Superman” single, which Daughtry himself notes as a turning point in his songwriting career, was a big risk he took, moving away from the usual grunge-y, rock sound that he’s known for, for a more electro-pop influenced style that’s reminiscent of The Script.

Looking ahead, they’ve teased their fans with a new single titled “Backbone”, off their upcoming fifth studio album. Tickets are priced from $128-188 via Sistic.
