Just a week after the hot news that RuPaul’s Drag Race star Katya would be coming to Singapore in May, organisers LA Comedy Live have announced another coveted queen’s arrival on our shores. None other than Alaska (or Alaska Thunderfuck 5000; or Justin Honard) is bringing her show Alaska 5000 to Shine Auditorium on Aug 27.
You already know her as the ultimate comedy queen. Even before she was inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame as champion of All Stars 2, the platinum blonde queen was a fan favourite from her time on Season 5 of RPDR. Serving looks and characteristic deadpan humour, Alaska proved a versatile force to be reckoned with. Since then, LA-based Honard has toured and performed consistently both solo and in conjunction with RPDR shows, as well as released a string of singles like “Ru Girl” and “Your Makeup is Terrible”.
Really, where do we even begin to outline Alaska’s standing as a Drag Race icon? Was it her spot-on impression of Lady Bunny on Snatch Game? Her creation of life-sized doll Lil’ Poundcake who eventually became a celebrity in her/its own right? How she then dressed as a real-life Lil’ Poundcake when she returned for All Stars 2? Or the fact that she basically coined the legendary “Hiiii / Byeeee” greeting, uttered exclusively in a shrill monotone, which would find its way into the lexicon of drag fans around the world—and even RuPaul herself?
The list goes on. Tickets go on sale 10am on Apr 2 via SISTIC; better grab them before they go byeee.
Alaska 5000 happens Aug 27 at Shine Auditorium. Tickets and more information available here.
